Simple Lifestyle

A humble and simple lifestyle is the source of great joy, and a holy defense against temptations and doubt. ~ Deacon Bill Steltemeir, EWTN Family Newsletter

I keep getting messages about simplicity, simplifying, leading a simple lifestyle. I had another one yesterday, but now I can't remember what it was. This morning it was this quote written at the bottom of the EWTN Family Newsletter.

What does a simple lifestyle look like? I've been [slowly] working on decluttering. I know that is the first step and I still have a lot to do. I wonder what the next step will be?

Hi Charity! I've been thinking about you a lot lately (even woke during the night last night w/ you on my mind!). Somehow I lost the link to your blog so I just went through comments on mine to find you. Glad I did. I'm going to come back to read more. Hope you're doing well. ((( hugs ))) D

I liked this posting a lot - I have been actively de-cluttering since last spring. I don't know if I will ever get to the point where I am clutter-free, clutter-less - but working on it slowly. My kid problem solved itself - every time one says "Mom, can I ______?" I say - is the living room and studio spotless? If they say "no" - I say - my ears work when they are clean - or ask me when they are clean. They have figured out already - that for spur of the moment plans - they don't have time to clean - so they better pick up after themselves all the time. No yelling, no fuss.

Would you please find the passage from the bible that talks about women respecting/obeying their husbands and type the whole passage here - in your remarks so I can copy it. My therapist said it is the REST of that passage - that talks about men loving their wives as they love Christ that is the KEY and that is the part that no one ever quotes. I think I am going to write a blog about that - and don't have time to find it - but i figured that you would know right where it is - thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

Vickie - Here you go. This is from Ephesians 5. I am headed to the shower, but when I have a chance to look for it, I will post a link to a sermon on this passage.

21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.

25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.[b] 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. 30 And we are members of his body.

31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”[c] 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
