Obedience

False religion seeks a peace of heart through all the wrong ways. A true relationship with God requires wholehearted obedience, not a token sacrifice. ~ Life Lesson in my Devotional Bible

What pleases the Lord more: burnt offering and sacrifices or obedience to his voice? It is better to obey than to sacrifice. It is better to listen to God than to offer the fat of sheep. ~ 1 Samuel 15:22

Doing what is right and fair is more important to the Lord than sacrifices. ~ Proverbs 21:3

I want faithful love more than I want animal sacrifices. I want people to know me more than I want burnt offerings. ~ Hosea 6:6

Many people think God requires us to follow a set of rules and that He is just looking for us to screw up so He can punish us. That is not true. God loves us and wants what is best for us. He doesn't give us rules so that he can catch us doing wrong or keep us from having fun. He gives us rules to protect us. Parents don't tell their children not to cross the street because to spoil their fun. They tell their kids not to cross the street because they don't want them to get hit by a car. It is the same with God. When we are obedient to Him, we are actually free. Free from the troubles that are caused by our own sin. It is a glorious place to be.

People who want to be free of any obligation outside of their own desire quickly find that, rather than being free, they become a slave to their every impulse.
