News

From 30 Happiness Tips:

Stop watching and reading depressing news. In the beginning you may worry that you’ll miss something, but think about it – when was the last time you truly needed to know the things covered in the daily news. Being selective about the information you expose yourself to can have an incredible impact on your level of personal happiness.

I gave up watching the national news over a year ago. I don't miss it. I always hear the top news stories on the radio or on our local news without having to hear the national news coverage that goes on and on and on and on.

I also don't watch those "news" shows about celebrities. The public's fascination with them is ridiculous. Well, maybe it is not the "public," but just the media. The media puts it all out there for people to consume because they are interested in making money. However, if they quit publishing it, I don't think anyone would really miss it. What do you think?

Most of what is sold as "news" is actually just gossip. A lot of what is on television is talked about here:
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. ~ Romans 1:28-31

Well, maybe that is a little harsh. There are probably some decent things on television. But I do try to avoid most tv. However, I love watching tv shows on DVD because at least I don't have to watch all the commercials trying to sell me something.
