Wednesday Walk

Since I am going to be giving the 4th Day talk at the walk I am working, I thought it would be a good idea for me to start reviewing the reunion sheet every week. So, Wednesday's will now be "Wednesday Walk" days.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Holy Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and every enjoy Your consolations. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Review your service sheet - Christ needs you. He needs you committed in faith, so that you may witness that faith in Christ with your brothers and sisters through:
Your Spiritual Life - Morning Devotion, Prayer Life, Worship Attendance, Communion, Spiritual Retreat
Your Study - Reading Holy Scriptures, Daily Spiritual Guides, Religious publications, Denominational newspapers, Religious magazines, Bible studies, Church school classes, Religious Seminars
Your Action - What have you done during this week so Christ will be better known and loved in your: Family, vocation, community, small group, Christian community

Closest to Christ - At what moment this past week did you feel closest to Christ? I found out on Monday night that a good friend, sort of mentor to me will also be working the walk. It was a confirmation that I was supposed to say yet.
Call to Discipleship - At what moment during this week did you feel you were responding to God's call to be His disciple? Saying yes to work the walk.
Discipleship Denied - When was your faith tested this week through failure? We should minister and show Christ's love to our family members first and I am not good with that. Honey was here this weekend and didn't have school Monday and I was annoyed and ready to have my house back to myself. I got angry with Sugar Pop yesterday because he needed to be up early and interrupted my quiet time. (I really hope to have a "room" in our new house that is "mine" and not a multi-purpose room like I have now.)
Your old plan - I didn't have a plan.
Your new plan - What is your plan for spirituality, study, and action for the week to come? Spirituality ~ Morning Quiet Time, Worship on Sunday - perhaps visit someplace since Sugar Pop is not playing this weekend.
Study ~ Continue reading my Magnificat daily. I need to make some time to read in Ordering Your Private World. I haven't read it in a while and would like to finish it.
Action ~ Start working on talk - at least scan the outline. Start working on February newsletter.

Prayer of Thanksgiving: Almighty God, who lives and reigns forever, we give You thanks for all the gifts You have bestowed upon us. Amen.

Walk to Emmaus

I got a call on Friday to work a Walk to Emmaus in May. I hesitated saying yes because I have just been off work for 6 weeks for my surgery and I will be off a week in March for spring break. And of course we are condsidering moving. If we do decide to move, I am going to have lots to do and I would also feel a litle guilty about taking another 3 days off work. But, I sent an email to my boss and he said it was fine (he doesn't know about the potentional move). Then I discussed with my husband. If we do decide to move it will be this summer and he made the comment that he doesn't want to neglect the Lord's work. So, I called the lay diretor and said yes.

Grace

What is the grace of God? The grace of God says you serve God because you are saved, not in order to be saved. You love people because you're saved, and not in order to be saved. You're not trying to keep a legalistic system, you're responding to a system of love and peace. What is grace? It's what someone gives us out of the goodness of their heart, not out of the perfection of ours. The story of grace is the good news that says that when we come, he gives. That's what grace is. Grace is a pleasant surprise. Grace is a kind gesture. Grace is something you did not expect. It is something you certainly could never earn. But grace is something you'd never turn down. You know what happens when someone sees the grace of God? When someone really tastes the forgiving and liberating grace of God? Someone who tastes God's grace is the hardest worker, the most morally pure individual, and the person most willing to forgive. ~ From The Inspirational Bible, "Grace", via my Devotional Bible

I think this is what is so life-changing about the Walk to Emmaus. During that 3 day weekend you really experience the Grace of God through the Body of Christ. Knowing His grace and experiencing His love changes the way the world looks. It is like seeing things in color instead of black and white. Hence the saying, "De Colores" (in colors).

Praying for the Walk

It is my time to pray...

This weekend there are 36 ladies on a retreat called the Walk to Emmaus. During the 72 hours of the retreat they are covered in prayer. Members of the Emmaus Community sign up for half hour times slots to pray. Now it is my turn.

Dear Heavenly Father, I lift up the ladies of Walk #194 to you. I know that You are there with them and that you are blessing them during this special weekend. I thank You for all You are doing - for the hearts that are being healed, for the forgiveness that is being received, for the joy that is filling that place, for the tears that are being shed and for the laughter that is being shared. Oh, I know that a wonderful time is being had by all! Lord, please continue to watch over the pilgrims, the team members and the clergy. If there are hearts that have not opened yet, I pray that You would gently move them. I pray for the community members that will be traveling this evening to join together in worship and prayer. Please keep them safe. I pray for the family members of the pilgrims and the team. I pray for everything at home to run safely and smoothly and that you would prepare them for their loved ones return. You are such a mighty and awesome God and I thank you for the Walk to Emmaus and the way you have used it to bless so many people and to help so many grow in their relationship with You. I pray for each person that will be sponsored by one of the current pilgrims on this walk, and for the people they will sponsor, and on and on and on. I pray that You will be forever glorified in the lives that have been touched through this ministry. In Jesus' Name I Pray. Amen.

I called some couples that were interested in our small group to let them know we were still meeting (even with the bad weather).

Discipleship Denied - When was your faith tested this week through failure?
Last week I had told the lady who runs video at church that I would be interested in helping (now that Honey has her driver's license and I won't have to drive her anymore) and that I would come this Sunday to learn how. When it came time to set the alarm and get up early, I did not want to do it (but I did it anyway and enjoyed it once I got there).

Walk to Emmaus Reunion Sheet

(Note: I used to be in a Walk to Emmaus Reunion group, but it slowly fell apart. I always liked the Reunion Group Sheet and will try to post it once a week and answer the questions.)

Your Action - What have you done during this week so Christ will be better known and loved in your: Family, vocation, community, small group, Christian community

Closest to Christ - At what moment this past week did you feel closest to Christ?
My quiet time this week has been really good. I am enjoying my bible reading and journalling is helping me feel closer to Christ.

Call to Discipleship - At what moment during this week did you feel you were responding to God's call to be His disciple? Where did you participate in being the Church this week, the heart beat of Christ?
I went to a friend's dad's funeral yesterday.
Discipleship Denied - When was your faith tested this week through failure?
I have felt very irritable this week. I particular remember Wednesday. I was actually glad to go to the grocery store Wednesday to get away from Sugar Pop and Honey for a while. I noticed my attitude when I was leaving the house, and made an effort to be nicer when I came home.
Your old plan - How faithful were you to fulfilling your plan this week?
Since I didn't do this last week, I didn't have a plan for this week.
Your new plan - What is your plan for spirituality, study, and action for the week to come?
Spirituality ~ Morning Quiet Time, Worship tomorrow morning.
Study ~ Continue bible reading and devotional reading. Need to prepare for next week's small group (first one after the holiday break).
Action ~ This afternoon we have a Kairos team meeting, tomorrow we will work the "Small Group Rally" at church.
Prayer of Thanksgiving:

Almighty God, who lives and reigns forever,
we give You thanks for all the gifts
You have bestowed upon us. Amen.
The leaders saw that Peter and John were not afraid to speak, and they understood that these men had no special training or education. So they were amazed. Then they realized that Peter and John had been with Jesus. ~ Acts 4:13

Being the Jesus changes us. He gives us the power to do things we never thought we could. I have always hated speaking in public. I would get so nervous when I had to give presentations at school that I could hardly speak. In 2002 I went on the Walk to Emmaus. There are 15 team members that give talks during the weekend. After you have been on a Walk you can have an opportunity to work one. I thought I would like to do that, but I would NOT want to give a talk. So, in 2004 I worked one (didn't have to talk). Then in 2006, I worked another and I did give a talk. It was only by the power of God that I was able to do that. Through him I was not nervous and I didn't stumble over words. I was amazed at how calm I was and I give HIM all the glory!
